Avram Barokas — Biography

Avram Barokas was born on 25 July 1926 in Bakırköy and played as a center for the Turkish national basketball team, known by his nickname "Börek." Later in his career he moved into coaching.

After his playing days, Barokas became devoted to horse racing as an owner and breeder; a race named in his honor, the "Avram Barokas Koşusu," is still held annually at Turkish racecourses today. He died on 4 July 2003 in Istanbul and continues to be remembered fondly within the sporting community he belonged to.
