Avni Kurgan — Biography

Avni Kurgan (born 27 January 1910 in Istanbul, died 1979) was a Turkish goalkeeper closely identified with Galatasaray, the club where he came up through the youth ranks. He was part of the Galatasaray sides that dominated Turkish football during the 1920s and 1930s, helping the club to several Istanbul championships, and he captained the team for a period in the 1930s.

Kurgan earned a single cap for the Turkish national team in 1931 and was later included in Turkey's squad for the football tournament at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, although he did not appear in any of the matches. He is remembered as one of the notable goalkeepers in Galatasaray's history.
