Aslı Gökyokuş — Biography

Aslı Gökyokuş is one of the women's voices of Turkish-language rock, and she writes the words and music of many of her own songs. Of Sivas origin, she has said that although her project looks like a solo act, it works more like a band because she has performed with the same team for so long. In a 2025 interview she spoke of wanting to make music like her older, energetic songs again.

A graduate of Istanbul University in American Culture and Literature, she began with a high-school band called Phoenix, which later became Mary Jane and played at Kemancı. She spent about a year and a half as a vocalist in Teoman's lineup. In 1999 she signed with Sony Müzik Türkiye and went solo; her first album, Neresindeyim, came out in 2000 and Su Gibi in 2004. After moving to NR1 Müzik she released Söylediğim Şarkılarda Saklı, whose "Dans Etmeye İhtiyacım Var" and "Yardımcı Olmuyor" got heavy radio and television play; the latter reached the top three on several charts despite being a rock track.

She later released the album Dünya (2018) and made videos for "Yanmaya Hazırım" and "Mış Gibi". In 2021 she recorded her own version of Ajda Pekkan's "O Benim Dünyam", and in April 2023 she put out the single "Aman". Saying she is affected by political events in Turkey, she recorded "Üç Cemre" for Deniz Gezmiş and his comrades and "Anneler Affetmez Sizi" for the Saturday Mothers.
