Asım Can Gündüz — Biography

Asım Can Gündüz was born on August 15, 1955, in Istanbul. He became known as one of Turkey's leading rock and blues guitarists, admired for his electric guitar playing and stage presence. Outside Turkey he was often nicknamed "Awesome John" and "John Gundez," a play on the way his name is pronounced.

Over the course of his career he was regarded as an influential figure on Turkey's rock scene. He died on June 24, 2016, in Marmaris, and his passing drew wide tributes from the Turkish music community. He is still remembered as one of the country's notable guitarists, and his son Evrencan Gündüz, also a musician, has continued to keep his father's legacy in public memory.
