Arzu Şahin — Biography

Arzu Şahin (born 9 September 1978) is a Turkish folk singer. Sources disagree on her birthplace: Wikidata and German-language references give Erzincan, while Turkish-language references give Istanbul. Local media in Erzincan present her as a singer from the province and regularly report on her appearances there.

Described as an Alevi Kurdish performer, Şahin is known for her türkü repertoire. She has appeared frequently at concerts organised by cemevis and local cultural institutions, including the summer concert series at the cemevi in Didim and performances in Çorum.

In late 2017 she was refused entry to Switzerland, where she had travelled to perform, an episode that received wide coverage in the Turkish press.
