Ankaralı Yasemin — Biography
Ankaralı Yasemin, whose real name is Yasemin Aydın, is a singer who rose to fame at the end of the 1990s with Ankara-style dance songs. Her 1998 album Hop Dedik Abi sold 280,000 copies and marked the start of her rise. Her discography from 1997 to 2015 includes albums she produced on her own as well as records released through the label she returned to later.
Raised in Ankara, she changed schools many times because of her father's job and could not continue her education after middle school for financial reasons. She started singing at 16 with a folk song at a relative's wedding and performed at weddings for a year. At 17 she phoned Tutku Müzik to ask Ankaralı Turgut for help and met his producer. In 1997 she went into the studio for the album Bende İsterem; Ankaralı Turgut directed the album, played saz and sang duets with her on two songs.
Within a year she fell out with her first label, moved to Emir Müzik and made the albums Sarışın Bombam, Hop Dedik Abi and Cepten Ara Beni. With her manager Kenan Kaya co-producing, she released Anlayalım Abi in 2000, then Tantana Yapma (2001) on Emir Müzik. After a long break came Best of Yasemin (2005), Öpüversin Seni (2006), Sevmiyorsan Kandırma (2007), Süper Ankaralılar (2008), Ankara Klasikleri (2012), Evlere Şenlik Eğlence (2014) and Nar Tanem (2015). She took part as a contestant in the Fox TV programme Gardırop Savaşları.
