Ali Artuner — Biography

Ali Artuner (September 5, 1944, İzmir – February 14, 2001, Istanbul) was one of the legendary goalkeepers of Göztepe and the Turkish national team. He spent his entire active career at Göztepe, a loyalty that made him one of the club's most revered figures, and he captained both Göztepe and the national side.

Known by the nickname "Moskova Panteri" (Panther of Moscow), Artuner was the uncle of goalkeeper Cenk Gönen. He died in Istanbul on February 14, 2001, from a brain tumor; several sports facilities and tournaments in İzmir bear his name in his memory, and the Göztepe community continues to commemorate him each year on the anniversary of his death.
