Akif Başaran — Biography
Mehmet Akif Başaran was born on 15 February 1956 in İzmir. A midfielder, he played for Altay, Bursaspor and Beşiktaş in the 1970s and 1980s and won four caps for the Turkey under-21 team.
After his playing days he moved into coaching. Since the mid-1980s he has worked as an assistant coach and head coach in Turkey's professional leagues, spending most of that time in the lower divisions.
In December 2013 he spoke to the press as head coach of Akçaabat FK. He was appointed head coach of Aydınspor 1923 in September 2014 and signed with the same club again in December 2017, a move the local press announced under the headline "a new coach for the Efe".
