Ahmet Suat Özyazıcı — Biography

Ahmet Suat Özyazıcı (April 20, 1936 – February 18, 2023) was a Turkish footballer and manager, born and raised in Trabzon. He began his playing career in 1956 with Trabzon İdmanocağı before moving to Trabzonspor, where he later became manager after retiring as a player; as a player he also represented Turkey at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

As Trabzonspor's manager he led the club to the 1976 title, making it the first team from Anatolia to become Turkish champion, and oversaw four of the six league titles the club won during the 1970s and 1980s along with 18 cups in total — a tactical record that earned him nicknames such as "the Brazilian" and "master of the cups" among fans and commentators. He held his last managerial spell at Trabzonspor in 1999 and died in Trabzon in 2023 at age 87; the club continues to commemorate him each year.
