Ahmet Erol — Biography

Ahmet Erol, known on the pitch as "Bego Ahmet," was a well-known left-sided defender for Fenerbahçe in the 1940s. He is remembered for a goal tally unusual for a defender, for his four caps for Turkey, and for the work he later did at the club as a coach and board member.

From 1945 to 1951 he played at left-back for Fenerbahçe, appearing 184 times and scoring 40 goals in those six seasons. He played four matches for the Turkey national team between 1948 and 1949. He was in Turkey's football squad at the 1948 Summer Olympics but did not play in any match of the tournament.

After retiring as a player he stayed close to Fenerbahçe. In 1967, when the Hungarian coach Molnar took charge of the club for a third time, he became his assistant, and he is credited with a large share of the work behind the 1967-68 league title. He later sat on the club's board. He died in Istanbul on 15 June 2012 at the age of 91 and was buried at Şeyhli Cemetery in Pendik.
