Agah Hün — Biography

Agâh Hün was a versatile artist who rose through the ranks of Turkish theatre, appeared in hundreds of Yeşilçam productions and also worked as a director, screenwriter and dubbing voice. Film audiences remember him above all as the imam in Şeytan and as the Turkish voice of Anthony Quinn in Çağrı.

He completed his training at the Ankara State Conservatory and made his stage debut as King Creon in Sophocles' Antigone. After playing in works such as Hamlet at the State Theatre he moved to Küçük Sahne in 1951, and in the following years worked at Oda Tiyatrosu, Küçük Opera and the Istanbul City Theatres. He appeared in over a hundred plays and directed thirty. He came to cinema in the early 1950s, acting in Halıcı Kız, remembered as the first colour Turkish film. Sevdiğim Sendin, which he directed in 1955, won him prizes for best film and best director of the year, and around then he wrote several screenplays too. Over the later decades he turned up as a character actor in films and series such as İstiklal, Sen Ağlama and Gönüller Sultanı Mevlana.

He retired from the Istanbul City Theatres in 1983, protesting that an artist has no age limit. He died of a heart attack in Istanbul in 1990. His elder brother Hadi Hün was also a stage actor.
