Girolimoni – Das Ungeheuer von Rom (The Assassin of Rome)
The Assassin of Rome (original title Girolimoni, il mostro di Roma), a 1972 Italian historical drama film directed by Damiano Damiani. The film tells the true story of Gino Girolimoni, who was wrongly accused of a series of child murders committed in Rome between 1924 and 1928, with some historical modifications. Through the experiences of Girolimoni, who became a scapegoat under the pressure of public opinion and the political atmosphere of the time, it shows how the justice system and the media could destroy a person. The production, which features Nino Manfredi in the lead role as well as actors such as Gabriele Lavia, Guido Leontini and Mario Carotenuto, is considered one of the important examples of the tradition of political and social criticism in Italian cinema.
